COOKIES & STORAGE

Cookies & storage

Effective 30 September 2026. This page lists everything Same Latitude keeps in your browser and every third party that may set cookies while you use it. For how personal data is handled more broadly, see the privacy policy.

What we store ourselves

Same Latitude sets no cookies of its own. It saves a few items in your browser’s local storage, which stays on your device. The game can’t work without them. They’re how it remembers today’s puzzle and your streak, so they’re strictly necessary and don’t need consent.

sl-themePREFERENCE

Whether you chose light or dark mode.

sl-difficultyPREFERENCE

Which difficulty (Normal or Easy) you last played.

sl-day-normal / sl-day-easyGAME PROGRESS

Today’s three games: the cities you guessed and whether each is won or lost.

sl-stats-normal / sl-stats-easyGAME PROGRESS

Your streak, best streak, games played, win rate and guess distribution.

sl-archiveGAME PROGRESS

Your progress on previous days you replayed.

sl-practice-tallyGAME PROGRESS

Your running totals in Pro practice mode.

sl-pro-tokenPRO ONLY

Your Pro key, which links this browser to your subscription.

sl-pro-statusPRO ONLY

A cached copy of whether Pro is active, re-checked with our server on every visit.

sl-lb-sentPRO ONLY

Which finished games were already posted to the Pro leaderboard.

Third parties

Google AdSense (advertising). Free visitors see ads served by Google, which may set cookies or use similar technologies to show and measure ads and, depending on your choices and location, to personalize them. Pro members are shown no ads. See how Google uses data in advertising, and manage personalization at adssettings.google.com.

Stripe (payments). Only if you go to buy Pro. Checkout happens on Stripe’s own page, which sets the cookies it needs to process the payment and prevent fraud. We don’t control those. See Stripe’s cookie policy.

Vercel Web Analytics (visit counts). Counts page views without cookies and without following you across sites. Nothing is stored in your browser.

Wikipedia and Wikimedia (city photos and facts). After a game ends, the result screen loads a photo and a short summary from Wikipedia. Your browser contacts those servers directly, as it would on any website.

Your choices

Ads. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU, UK and Switzerland), Google shows its own consent message the first time you visit, and you can change that choice from the same place later. Elsewhere, you can opt out of personalized ads at adssettings.google.com or aboutads.info/choices. Pro removes ads entirely.

Clearing stored data. In your browser’s settings, clear site data for this domain. That erases everything in the list above, including your streak, stats and Pro key, and we can’t restore it. If you clear your Pro key, paste it back on the Pro page (“Already Pro on another device?”), or email us and we’ll reissue it.

Blocking cookies. You can block third-party cookies in your browser. The game keeps working; you may see less relevant ads, and checkout on Stripe may need cookies enabled to complete.
